Flooding

What a wild week. Monday was MLK day. On Tuesday we awoke to a dusting of snow with ice and a 2 hour delay for school. It continued to snow throughout the day but warmed up and then rained all night and the next day and next. By Thursday things in Salem started to flood. Parents were given the message that they were encouraged to pick up kids early but school did not close. That night there were no evening activities in schools so no basketball practice. We did head to swimming for Ellie which was tough because so many streets were closed. School was cancelled for Friday. Some parts of Salem had awful flooding. The kids were able to play their first basketball games on Saturday. Then we drove to take a look at Wallace Marine part right here in West Salem. It is under at least 6 feet of water as the Willamette river went over flood stage. It makes me very thankful for everything I have. Hopefully the rain can stop for a while and things can dry out.

Skiing

Ellie loves to ski! She started 4 years ago and absolutely loves it. We now try to get her up to the mountains at least 3 times a year. It takes some dedication from a non-skiing family. When I see her glow after she is done it is worth it. We went up over MLK weekend. It was really snowy but our new truck handled it well. Ellie did all day ski school and even got an extra run in with her teacher.

New Year's Eve

We rang in 2012 with some of our best friends the Fultons and Hakalas in Eugene. The kids had a blast running around and playing. We ate a yummy ham dinner. We chatted, watched the crazy stunts on tv and live coverage of Times Square. The moms even did a little Abba just dance. Think I'm glad I didn't get any pics of that. We stayed up until midnight and then left as soon as it was 2012. Which meant we got home in Salem at close to 1:30 in the morning. The only bummer to the the story was 3 of the people there were vomiting within 24 hours so we all must have shared a new year's virus. Still, it was good to spend some quality time with great friends! We are looking forward to a new year!
